MEET THE SINGAPOREAN

CIAO! SONO MELANIE HENDRICKS.

I am a 29-year old singaporean who is passionate to become a SINGAPOREAN / ITALIAN NONNA THROUGH LEARNING AND COOKING AUTHENTIC ITALIAN CUISINES - INSPIRED BY ANTHONY BOURDAIN, David Rocco, STANLEY TUCCI AND GIORGIO LOCATELLI.

i belong to the minority group in singapore called, "the eurasians" where i have a mixture of Portuguese, dutch and chinese heritage. singapore, a tiny red dot on the huge map! how could i possibly venture into the world? join an airline of course!

 

Being a flight attendant with singapore airlines for 4 years has given me the priviledge to travel to unimaginable places in this world.

After visiting more than 30 countries, cupid struck my heart with Italy in 2013. It was Love at First Flight.

 

I will never forget my pioneer Italian adventure where I was greeted by the impeccable Italian hospitality as I gallivanted through the ancient ruins of Roma, ate gelato for breakfast, lunch and dinner and had major goosebumps as I visited The Vatican City. Belissima.

 

Since young, my late father has always instilled in me the importance of chasing after your dreams. He was the one who inspired me to travel as he always tested my siblings and I on the capitals of each country (my hidden talent).

 

hence, This blog is an extension of my passion and love for this beautiful country- its food, wine, history,  picturesque summer landscapes,  hospitality and not forgetting its language. prior to living in italy for 3 months, i studied italian at apics school in singapore (read more about my experience here). It definitely helped me when i was there. 

 

Today, I am also an ASPIRING entrepreneur.
